Hunan Opera of Guiyang County belongs to Hunan Opera of Hengyang City in terms of genre, and is a local major drama genre in Hunan Province. However, it has evolved into a kind of Hunan opera with local characteristics of Guiyang, integrated with the local Kunqu Opera as well as Yiyang Opera in singing, and mixed with the local folk music as well as minor keys in music with the local language.
In 2006, Hunan Opera of Guiyang County was included in the first batch of the provincial intangible cultural heritage representative list. In 2008, it was added to the second batch of the national intangible cultural heritage representative list.
